The Hans Saari Memorial Fund Education Scholarship
The Hans Saari Education Scholarship encourages professional and recreational skiers to improve their skills and get necessary experience through participating in academic or experiential educational programs. Those that address avalanche mechanics and safe mountain travel are most highly recommended. While scholarships may not cover all program costs, they may offset the direct costs related to tuition or application fees.
The Fund provides scholarships to individuals seeking to improve their understanding of avalanches, avalanche mechanics, and travel in avalanche terrain. The scholarships are intended for both the recreational and professional skier. In the past, the Fund has provided support to ski area professionals attending the annual International Snow Science Workshop and students attending backcountry ski courses in the Tetons. Scholarships may also be granted to individuals for avalanche courses, ski camps, or workshops that emphasize safe travel and avalanche awareness.. The program gives priority to those candidates who are avalanche educators or ski safety professionals. The Fund’s Education Committee reviews scholarship applications twice a year and may award up to three grants of $5,000.00 each during the award cycles. Application due dates are February 26 and August 30 and may be submitted online. Submissions without signatures on the Application and acceptance of risk Agreement will not be considered. Applicants for the February deadline will be notified at the end of March, while August submissions will be reviewed and applicants notified by September 30. Questions regarding the application procedure may be addressed to info@hansfund.org.
